Our Origin Story

In 1998, 13 employees took a leap of faith, leaving the security of a parent company to build something of their own. That leap became Shelter Products — a company founded on grit, trust, and the belief that people come first.

1966

North Pacific’s Contractor Division is founded, laying the groundwork for what would become Shelter Products.

1997

Faced with a strategic split, 13 employees made the bold decision to buy their independence from North Pacific and form their own company.

1998

Shelter Products, Inc. is officially formed after employees trade stock and raise capital to buy out NOR PAC — and pay off the deal in just 15 weeks.

2003

Shelter Products is named Pro Dealer of the Year by Home Channel News, cementing its reputation in the industry.

2004

Shelter Products expanded to the Southeast by opening a sales office in Daphne, Alabama, laying the groundwork for Gulf Coast Shelter.

2005

In 2005, Shelter Products launched its EWP division and earned its first listing among Oregon’s Top 100 Private Companies.

2008

Expansion accelerates with the acquisition of Shelter Forest International and the opening of a new office in Dallas, TX.

2015

SPI opens a Minneapolis office, extending its presence deeper into the Midwest construction market.

2016

The company adds a Denver office to better serve the growing demand across the Mountain West region.

TODAY

SPI continues to grow as a trusted national distributor, known for its people-first culture, employee ownership, and industry expertise.
