At Shelter Products, Inc. we use our mission statement as a guiding principle and a road map directing us toward our future. Our mission statement is: Move our well managed and talented organization toward an increased nationwide presence by improving our customer service, by sourcing cost-effective materials to keep you competitive and profitable, and discovering our customer’s needs and then filling them.
This mission statement molds our values, helps us make decisions, and inspires our policies and innovations. Since the 1960s when we started, our mission statement has changed little. But what has changed is the business environment we operate in and our customer’s requirements to be successful. To name a few of these changes, we’ve discovered that in today’s fast-paced building industry you require just-in-time shipments delivered to small sites; you need recommendations for engineered wood systems and then technical support in properly implementing these products. Some of your projects require extended shipment times or our expertise of market trending and projecting.
It’s simple: when we find a need, we work to fill it. And because we are committed to working closely with our customers, let’s not forget logistics and convenience. We opened an operating division in Daphne, Alabama to cover the South and Southeast United States. And our most recent endeavor was the opening of our Dallas office to strengthen our presence in Texas and the Midwest.
Most importantly, we haven’t forgotten where our success truly lies: with you, our valued customer. We are always seeking and putting into practice ways to be a better partner. We understand the world is full of lumber companies. From your feedback, we learned that you value the tools we provide to control jobsite inventories, our easy and concise invoicing, our daily phone calls to the jobsite asking “what do you need?”, and value engineering to boost your bottom line. Although the term “value engineering” may be the most overused term in the industry, we have saved our customers millions of dollars through our market knowledge, ideas and expertise.
Now that we’re moving forward into the 21st century, our first president Brad Mannelin has entrusted me with the mission to continue to grow SPI and to push this innovative firm to the next level. I am honored by this position and excited about our future.
